SEEKING CORPORATE SPONSORS FOR 2006-2007
Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre has built a reputation for
producing engaging, artistic shows of rare versatility &
polish since 1986. The company sold out its last three productions
to a diverse, enthusiastic audience in Vancouver. This year,
we are raising $20,000 from corporate sponsors to help fund
our newest production, “Café de Chinitas”.
The first showing will be October 28, 2006. These funds will
be used towards production & administrative costs. Each
sponsor will receive public recognition for supporting the
Arts in Vancouver, World Music and Flamenco Dance.

2006 Project: Café de Chinitas
Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre & The Orchid Ensemble
explore the art of Flamenco dance with the sounds of Chinese
traditional instruments in an innovative, contemporary fusion.
‘East meets West’ as gold embroidered cheong sams
& the tinkling of the Chinese Zheng blend with the powerful
strumming of Flamenco guitar, crackling hand claps & fiery
footwork.
Immortalized in the Spanish poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca,
“Café de Chinitas” or “Chinese Café”
was a classic singing coffee shop in Malaga in the mid 18th
century. During this era of extensive Spanish-Orient trade,
Asian women used to frequent this Café & were commonly
known as “chinitas”.
Residing in Vancouver with company members of Asian descent,
how fitting that Mozaico Flamenco embark on a journey to explore
Chinese-Spanish music, art &dance in Café de Chinitas!
This has never been done in Flamenco before. It is truly original
for the art form & extremely relevant for Mozaico Flamenco
&the City of Vancouver. Mozaico Flamenco represents Canadian
multiculturalism as our diverse backgrounds include Chinese,
Filipino, English, Mexican and Spanish nationality.
The artistic director, Oscar Nieto, is one of North America’s
most acclaimed Flamenco dancers and the first Flamenco dancer
ever to receive the prestigious Jacqueline Lemieux Prize.
The project artistic director, Kasandra Lea, has been acclaimed
“the city’s rising Flamenco star…of Asian
origin…who has embodied Flamenco with her dynamic, precise
style, earning her an enviable reputation as one of the finest
bailaoras in Vancouver”.
Thank you for your consideration in supporting the Artistic
Community and contributing to the cultural harmony of the
City of Vancouver.
