As I write this notice, I am working at my laptop, overlooking the sandy Poipu Beach in Kauai! Alas, September is here as I enjoy my last few days of vacation before the school term starts again with all its usual excitement and hubbub!
Classes start on September 8th and go to December 15th,
as we gear up for a year end Christmas Recital on December 15, 2007
at the Norman Rothstein Theatre.
RETURN ON SAT SEPTEMBER 8th!
I would like to remind all AMFDA students that regular classes start on Saturday September 8, 2007.
KASANDRA'S POR FIESTA MASTERCLASSES RETURN ON SEPTEMBER 15TH!
However, a special note to all my Bulerias and Tangos Por Fiesta Masterclasses that YOUR class will start the FOLLOWING
Saturday September 15, 2007.
I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion.

DESCRIPTION: This is a first level Introduction class for students that are new to flamenco. No previous knowledge of flamenco dance or music is required. This class will introduce students to the basic rhythms and dance forms of flamenco. The course introduces fundamental flamenco dance techniques including braceo (arms), floreo (fingers), posture (torso) and zapateado (footwork). The basic goal is coordination of movement. Secondly, it is also an integrated music class whereby students learn palmas (handclapping) rhythms for different songs and jaleo (shouts of encouragement). Students will obtain proper ear training to listen to the music and song forms.
ATTIRE: Wear comfortable clothes like yoga pants and t-shirt/leotard for the first class. During the term the teacher will talk about flamenco skirts but you do not need them initially. You must wear comfortable shoes that you can wear for 90 min. We ask that students that continue throughout the entire term buy flamenco shoes at Edie Hats in Granville Island (ordering takes 4-6 weeks for custom shoes) or Avalon Dance Shop at Main & 30th. Shoes are $200-300.
