Each class is 90 minutes and includes body coordination, technique and footwork exercises to be repeated each week. Flamenco has an interesting aesthetic and technique, so repetition to develop muscle memory is important. Some classes will include live guitar and introduce the importance of palmas (handclapping), compas (rhythm) to flamenco dance and song.
No previous knowledge of flamenco dance or any dance is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothes such as leotard, yoga pants and shirts. Please also wear comfortable shoes that you can wear for 90 minutes. Flamenco shoes are not necessary at this stage, but the instructor will go over shoes and skirts for students continuing.
Flamenco dance shoes can be purchased at Edie Hats (Senovilla brand) and Avalon Dance Shop (Gallardo and Jose Beltran brands). When purchasing flamenco dance shoes, the nails in the toes and heels must already. If there are NO nails, then they are character shoes and not applicable to flamenco. We do not recommend that you buy them.
Flamenco skirts can be purchased at Avalon Dance Shop (Main and 30th) and The Dance Shop (West Broadway and Granville).
