Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy

Fall Term 2010

September 8 to December 19, 2010

Classes & Schedule

Welcome to a fresh FALL TERM at Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy!

Newcomers are welcome to register for our Introduction classes on Thursday at 6:00-7:30pm and Sunday at 10:30am-12:00pm at Hastings Dance Studio.  We are also starting a NEW timeslot on Wednesdays 8:00-9:30pm at the Scotiabank Dance Centre at 677 Davie Street.

For continuing students, welcome back!  If you have been with us for some time, our class schedule remains largely unchanged.  Please see our COMPLETE SCHEDULE.

BULERIAS POR FIESTA

POR FIESTA – If you are already taking a technique class or two, then I would strongly recommend learning Por Fiesta.  Oscar Nieto and Kasandra La China are famed for teaching students how to dance bulerias and tangos, personally, effectively and efficiently.  I would dare say we are better at teaching this to beginners than going to classes in Spain.

As a contrast to technique classes, which are about movement and exercise, the Por Fiesta classes integrate live singer and guitarist, and teach how the dance interacts with the music.  Often it takes 12 months to get into the groove, and 3 years to really feel comfortable with this course.

People who have studied flamenco find these classes to be truly rewarding, personally, psychologically, mentally and have gone on to understanding flamenco at a deeper level.  Flamenco is a cuadro experience, that means live singer, guitarist, palmas and dancer.  Dancer is only 1 out of 4 components that comprise flamenco.

Bulerias I    Saturday 12:00-1:30pm  Kasandra La China

Bulerias II   Monday 6:00-7:30pm      Kasandra La China

  • Saturday 12:00-1:30pm timeslot now belongs to Bulerias por Fiesta I.  This is a beginner level Bulerias class.  If you are a beginner student who is interested in learning Bulerias, this is a great introductory course, as we will be studying the structure of bulerias, learning the cante (song form) and a short choreography.
  • Monday 6:00-7:30pm timeslot now belongs to Bulerias por Fiesta II!  This is an intermediate level Bulerias class for people who have previous experience with 12 compas and/or Bulerias.  We will be studying the structure of bulerias, learning the cante (new Jerez letras!) and a short choreography.  We always have live musicians accompanying the class so you can practice your solo chops.
