Calling Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy Students:
We are auditioning soloists for our “Feria de Invierno” year end Christmas recital at the Norman Rothstein Theatre on Sunday December 13th, 2009.
We realize that there are many students who put their time, energy and soul into flamenco and that many are capable of doing solo work. As flamenco is a solo art form, we would like to encourage students to develop solos, practice independently and provide opportunities for them to perform in front of others. As the school grows and evolves, we would like to provide opportunities for people to perform on the "big stage". Therefore, we are sending out a call for soloists to perform at the Norman Rothstein Theatre on Sunday December 13th.
This audition will be held on Friday November 27th, 2009 between 6:00 and 9:00pm at Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy, Studio B (Kasandra's studio).
Moving forward into the future, we intend to hold these auditions before each student event (Summer El Jaleo, Christmas Concert) so you may start preparing now for future events!
These auditions will be adjudicated by Oscar Nieto and Kasandra La China, and selected guest(s). Students will receive constructive feedback on their dance. The criterion is as follows:
- The student must currently study at Al Mozaico Flamenco Dance Academy with either Oscar Nieto or Kasandra or Andrea or Cyrena. (Eg: Must have a class card at the moment.) The student must also have studied at AMFDA for at least one (1) year.
- If the student performs with live musicians, the student must provide their own cuadro for the audition or dance to a CD selection.
- Length of the piece should be between 4 and 8 minutes long. Please do NOT go over 8 minutes, as this will mean disqualification. Short and sweet!
- Teachers, dance company members and semi-professionals may also apply.
- Students of all levels and ages may apply.
- Though we intend to select one soloist, if there are worthy candidates, we reserve the right to select more than one.
- This award will be based on merit and students will be evaluated on technical and artistic categories.
