SUMMER INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS

Introduction to Flamenco Dance!
Try an intensive 3 day Introduction to Flamenco Dance Workshop in July with Andrea Williams. Students will experience flamenco movement and style by studying Tangos por Fiesta. This course will introduce the fundamentals of flamenco dance including braceo (arms), floreo (hand/finger movements) torso (upper body), zapateado (footwork) and overall coordination. No previous experience or special equipment/shoes are necessary. Students should wear comfortable clothes such as yoga pants or wide skirt, and t-shirt, tank top or leotard.
Regarding the shoes, flamenco shoes are used but not required for this course. You can wear regular street shoes, character/ballroom/tap shoes if you have them from previous dance, or else just simple comfortable shoes that you can wear for 90 minutes. Do not wear sandals or flip flops, as they will fly off your feet when you do footwork. Shoes can be purchased through Edie Hats www.ediehats.com for approximately $200.

Beginner Footwork Bootcamp!
This intensive 3 day Footwork Bootcamp is designed to build footwork technique and strength through the repetition of various footwork patterns. Students will repeat patterns each day to improve their coordination, and also the sound quality and soniquete of their footwork. Upper body movement will also be integrated. This course is for beginner students of flamenco with some experience. Flamenco shoes are absolutely necessary.

"Estilo de Mujer" - Hips and Hands
This intensive 3 day course is designed to introduce style for women. Flamenco is a sensuous dance form that is very attractive to women. It is empowering and emotional, but how do we express that through our bodies in our dance? This course will analyse posture, the use of hips, upper body, arms and floreo. Hip action in flamenco is quite unique from other dance forms, as hips move as a consequence of pressing into the floor. Therefore, we explore hip movement through a series of marking exercises to Tientos and Tangos. We will also integrate upper body, arms and floreo (hand/finger movement). There are many styles in flamenco and we will explore traditional versus contemporary movement. There will be very little emphasis on footwork in this course. Students should have flamenco dance experience.

Bata de Cola Technical Bootcamp!
This intensive 3 day course is designed to introduce and practise technique for bata de cola (dress with long train) through the repetition of various floor exercises. The course curriculum will include technique exercises from Escuela Matilde Coral, a famous school in Seville renowned for teaching bata de cola. Students will repeat floor exercises and marking patterns each day to improve their coordination and technique, wielding the bata de cola. Style for upper body and floreo (hand movements) will also be integrated. This course is for new students to bata de cola or existing students that wish to practise floor exercises to master technique. Wearing a bata de cola is absolutely necessary.
